Joining Group i in 2015, as Construction Management Director, Jim Gernand brings an impressive record of achievement and experience in the construction industry through a career spanning more than 30 years. 

Prior to joining Group i, Jim was the Vice President of Product Development and Field Operations for PreFast Buildings, the industry leader in the design, manufacture, and installation of State of California, Department of the State Architect Pre-Check approved, high-performance school buildings for the California K-12 and Community College Markets. Prior to PreFast Buildings, Jim worked for Charles Pankow Builders, a premier, nationally recognized design-build construction firm specializing in commercial, hospitality, residential and institutional projects. Joining Pankow in 1986, Jim worked his way up through various engineering and superintending positions in the field before assuming senior leadership duties in the roles of Seismic Group Manager, Project Sponsor and Project Executive for numerous design-build projects. 

Mr. Gernand received a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Construction Engineering from Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN and is a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers Construction Institute. Mr. Gernand is interested in historic preservation and has been a long-standing member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions and the California Preservation Foundation. Jim serves his community as a member of the Redwood City Historic Resources Advisory Committee to the Redwood City Planning Commission.
