Serving as Group I’s in-house architect and project manager, Dan Paris deftly translates Group I's design intent into the built form though his 17 years of architectural and construction experience. His lengthy background allows him to quickly determine whether a conceptual design will prove to be functional to construct. Dan also focuses on streamlining the often lengthy process between conceptualization and project construction, saving Group I valuable time and resources.
Dan acts as building architect for the modernization of the residential, retail and office uses of the, multi-story, mixed-use buildings at 140 Second Street, San Francisco, Telegraph Commons, Berkeley and the renovations at the historic Warfield Building. Dan also managed the modern conversion of the Book Concern Building in San Francisco taking the project from feasibility through serving as construction superintendent. Dan's work focuses on creating modern aesthetics on a tight budget, transforming existing buildings into an artful mix without diminishing either the old or the new.
Dan is also a devoted maker. Through a rigorous and collaborative consideration of design and drawings, to the final construction and fabrication, Dan's process continually evolves until an elegant, functional, innovative and feasible solution is obtained; his work at Group I is evidence of this process.
In addition to providing design, drawing and permitting skills, Dan is a licensed General Contractor and able to serve as a source of construction consultation and collaboration with fellow builders. This design/build approach provides enormous efficiency in detailing, estimating/pricing and scheduling.
When he’s not at work, Dan re-works, re-models, and re-constructs his own home, a laboratory that inspires and informs the decisions he makes at Group I. Dan is also an accomplished musician who has toured the United States and Europe, but he’s happiest at home with his wife and three daughters who (cheerfully) suffer his home experiments in design, construction, music, zymurgy and charcuterie.
Dan graduated with honors from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Dan is a licensed California Architect and General Contractor, LEED AP, and a San Francisco Planning + Urban Research member.
